Thursday 27th June 2024 Brandon to Newcomb through the Adirondacks, c. 69 miles.

The Country Village Campground is excellent. Hot showers, grass to camp on, electric points where a phone can be charged, a swimming pool. This is very much the transam cyclists dream. But we needed a bigger mileage. We must average at least 50 miles on the route each day so a few 60 to 70 mile days are very useful. Today we cycled to Lake Champlain, which is the border with NY State, we crossed over on the picturesque ferry then reached Ticonderoga, a fine looking town with a bank, which we used, a coop which supplied coconut ices, and a huge Walmart on the edge of town, which sold us a large pack of pecan buns, dripping on what we were willing to think was maple syrup which wethen topped with live yoghurt. The carbs were well chosen since we then had to climb a huge hill out into the Adirondacks. Sunny but a headwind and not humid. Then a pretty road past some lakes , so tuckd onto the wooded hills that the headwind was baffled, the road ending up in Severance, then up to North Hudson then over to Newcomb through a hilly twisty route through a wilderness of hills and forests. It was easy imagine bears roaming the forest twilight. Newcomb has a campsite where we are now tucked away - wow only $20 fora tent. There's a cafe so a cooked breakfast seems likely. It's about time... We arrived at 7.30pm, late but still light.
