We had two miles to cycle from the Red Barn campground in order to get back on route. Then we did the road past the Blackhawk Campground for the third time - Black Hawk was a native American leader who was aligned to us Brits.... The wind seems to be moving more southerly, and the heat increasing. Hmm, a touch worrying since that brought thunder last time - and some big temperatures. We went past an historical marker for the Battle of Bad Axe in 1832. It was a massacre of the Native Americans who were hugely out gunned - and aligned to the British. We pushed on through Victory and Stoddard and eventually reached La Crosse, WI - named by the French for a game that they saw Native Americans playing. Guy got a new tyre from Bikes Limited, and I got some cycling gloves. There's a great co-op in the centre, it provided a big lunch.... Then on northwards, initially on road then on a track - my front mudguards rivets were removed when I cycled over a twig and the twig hit the mudguard stays. They may be fixable with cable ties. The track got us to Trempealeau - great name (French: soak in water) - where we cycled to the camping area of Perrott Park - sadly the office where you can book is about 2 miles from the campground.... so more miles off route were done. And then we went around the camping loops a couple of times before we found our site (not numbered). They have a sort of hiker biker area in all but name. The view of the Mississippi from the park is great. The problem is the mosquitoes - plus midges and flies.... I've nearly finished Main Street, the book.... how a woman came to terms with small town life. Not bad and over a century old. The photo is an arty view from Perrot State Park. You'll have to imagine the mosquitoes. That cloud hinted at the rain that is now falling, with an occasional rumble of thunder. No tornado warning and rain fairly gentle.... at the moment.
